Now we have reached the content creation stage where the email will be drafted up and the content will be created.

From Scratch:

The first setting you will need to define is the content type.

Content type

The available options are:

HTML only – This will only require the HTML version of your email to be created, this is a standard email with styling, images and links.

Plain text only –
This will only require the plain text version of the email to be created. This will not have any text styling, images, tables or links.

**Note that this setting will not track opens as images are required in order to track if the email is opened.

Both HTML and plain text –
This will require that you create both an HTML version of the email as well as a plain text version. This is the recommended setting as it is required by a number of email clients for inbox delivery.

**Note that the plain text version must be formatted in the same way the HTML version is. For a simple web tool that can generate a perfectly formatted plain text version, visit http://premailer.dialect.ca/ and paste your HTML code into the web tool.

The next setting is the subject line.

Subject Line

This is required and very important as it will provide information to your subscribers as to what your email is about.
You can add personalised content to the subject line by using the “Add personalized content” drop-down menu.

The next section is the HTML Content window where you will create the content for the email.

WYSIWYG Editor

You have a number of basic tools at your disposal for formatting and adding content to your email.

The most notable of these tools are the following:

HTML button The HTML tool – This tool will provide you with an HTML window that will show you the source HTML code of your email. You can use this tool to access your HTML code to copy and edit outside of the platform or to paste new html over the existing code.

Add/Edit Image button The Insert/Edit image tool – This tool will allow you to add an image into your email wherever your text cursor is located. It can also be used to edit existing images that are currently selected.

Personalisation links The Personalisation tool – This tool can be used to insert personalisation shortcodes and links into the HMTL of your email. Examples of this are Custom fields, Unsubscribe links, View in Web Browser Links, and the Subscriber’s email address.

Link/Unlink button The Insert/Edit Link tool and Break Link tool – This tool is used to link text to URLs for selected text or to edit existing URLs.

The next section is the Plain Content window where you will paste or type the plain text version of your email.

Plain content area

You will have a width guide to ensure your text fits the screen for older devices.

You will also have the personalisation drop-down tool as you had when setting the subject line for sections where your email uses the relevant custom fields or short-codes.

Next you have the choice to attach one or more files to your email.

Attach a file

To do so, simply click the [Choose File] button and you will be prompted to locate the file from your computer’s file system.

Once you have completed all of the above, you may click the [Next] button to continue.

Simply select a template you would like to use by clicking its thumbnail, and clicking the [Next] button at the bottom of the page.

As with the “From Scratch” method of creation you have the option to choose what type of content the email contains.

Content type

**Note that if you select “Plain text only”, you will remove the predefined HTML content of the template and that content will be lost. It is therefore recommended to use either HTML only, or Both HTML and plain text as the content type when using templates.

The next option is to set the subject line.

Subject Line

This is required and very important as it will provide information to your subscribers as to what your email is about.
