Conditional Personalization

With Total Send you can personalize the content of your newsletter based on subscriber information stored in one of your custom fields. This feature is called “Conditional Personalization”.

What does “Conditional Personalization” do and how it will improve your newsletter success?

The "Conditional Personalization" feature will let you to customize and personalize your newsletter content based on your subscriber information. Let’s say you have a mailing list of 50,000 subscribers and you want to send out a newsletter. You want to start your newsletter with the subscriber's first name that is stored in the custom field information, for example “Dear Judy”. But what happens if that subscriber does not have any information stored for their first name? The result will come out blank, for example: “Dear “. This is obviously not ideal and will negatively affect the success of the email campaign. With Total Send's "Conditional Personalization" you can avoid this!


Standard Personalization

In Total Send, you can personalize your newsletter in the following way: Dear %Subscriber:CustomField1% *** In this example, we assumed that “name” information exists in the Custom Field #1 also note that the custom field number will be generated uniquely for your account and your first custom field will not necessarily be named CustomField1 ***

How to perform Conditional Personalization?

If you want to improve this personalization with Total Send's advanced "Conditional Personalization" feature, then you can personalize in the following way: Dear [%Subscriber:CustomField1%=,Valued Customer,%Subscriber:CustomField1%] Syntax: [condition1=x,true_value,false_value] *** In the above example Total Send checks condition1 (in this case, it is checking if CustomField1 is blank). It then applies the logic if true (if the field IS blank) then insert the text "Valued Customer". Otherwise if false (it is not blank) then insert the data contained in "CustomField1"
